It’s high time someone did something about the drones.
An upstate New York elected official wants the Federal Aviation Administration and the FBI to come up with answers to the drone mystery that’s been looming over New Jersey and parts of the Empire State — and says he even wrote a letter to the White House to complain.
“The fact that this issue has persisted for weeks without clear answers is completely unacceptable—not just to the people of Rockland County, but to communities across the nation,” Rockland County Executive Ed Day said in a scathing statement.
“It’s time for the federal government to step up, take responsibility, and provide the answers we all deserve,” he said in the statement released Friday. “We understand that these drone sightings may be unsettling and are taking these reports seriously.”
Day said four more drones were spotted over the county and flying into Jersey on Thursday. Rockland shares a border with the Garden State to the south.
The mysterious drones have been puzzling and worrying locals since mid-November, when the FAA began receiving reports on the high-flying crafts — one even obstructing a medivac chopper.
One expert told Fox Business that the drones could even be launched by a hostile foreign power to distract federal and local authorities from more nefarious activities.
The Biden administration has largely brushed off the concerns, with the feds saying they have been unable to verify any of the more than 3,000 reports of car-sized drones in the skies above.
But Day says he wrote President Joe Biden asking that they reconsider and get the FAA and FBI to “investigate and provide answers as to who is behind these drone sightings.”
Meanwhile, Rockland cops are asking county residents to keep an eye to the sky.
“We are asking all county residents if they see something, say something,” Rockland County Sheriff Louis Falco said in a statement. “Once 911 is contacted, an officer from the local jurisdiction and sheriff’s office will be dispatched to investigate, everything will be documented and reported to federal authorities.”
