Nick Sirianni has heated exchange with Eagles coach after penalty

There’s never a dull moment in Philadelphia.

Seconds after Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter was flagged for unnecessary roughness in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s home game against the Steelers — with the Birds holding a 27-13 lead they would never relinquish — the fireworks erupted on Philadelphia’s sideline, courtesy of head coach Nick Sirianni.

The broadcast captured Sirianni, 43, having a heated exchange with defensive line coach Clint Hurtt, who appeared to stand in the head coach’s path to Carter, 23.

Sirianni, whose Eagles extended their win streak to 10 straight games with the Week 15 victory, touched upon the incident in his postgame press conference.

“I’ll never get into the conversations I have with players,” the coach said when pressed about what he said to Carter, according to 24/7 Sports. “He made a play that is not part of our standard. My job is to correct that. Regardless of what it is, we’re gonna correct the things we need to do better and praise the things we need to do well.”

Sirianni said while he “loves” Carter, the former first-round pick out of Georgia “needs to be smarter in that situation because it could have given them the ball back.”

Carter viciously smacked the helmet of Connor Heyward when the Steelers were punting. He was flagged for a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty. However, it was ruled that it came after the punt and that allowed Philadelphia to keep possession.

“It didn’t give them the ball back, but it could have. And so we’re going to need to get better from that. That’s what you do as a coach. Again, he played a good game,” Sirianni said.

It’s been a dramatic few days for the Eagles, who have gone from one controversy to another.

Star wide receiver A.J. Brown criticized the team’s passing game last Sunday following a close 22-16 win against the Panthers.

A short time later, veteran Brandon Graham provided insight into Brown’s relationship with quarterback Jalen Hurts, noting, “They was friends before this, but things have changed.”

Graham has since walked back on his remarks, telling ESPN: “I made a mistake, and I assumed that it was something that it wasn’t.”

The Brown-Hurts connection was in full swing Sunday with the pair connecting for a five-yard touchdown.

The Eagles visit the Commanders in Week 16.
