NFL quarterback rankings, Week 4: Jalen Hurts has arrived
Three weeks into the 2022 NFL season, Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles are soaring above the competition.
Our 2022 FanSided NFL quarterback rankings go live each Wednesday morning throughout the regular season, and we use a sliding scale incorporating current and past performances, with the former meaning more as the year goes on.
NFL quarterback rankings
32
Mitchell Trubisky
Last Week: 32 Pittsburgh Steelers
2022 stats: 569 yards | 60.2 comp % | 2 TD | 1 INT | 5.5 YPA | 44.0 QBR
The Steelers should turn the keys over to Kenny Pickett. Trubisky doesn’t threaten any defense he faces.
31
Justin Fields
Last Week: 28 Chicago Bears
2022 stats: 297 yards | 51.1 comp % | 2 TD | 4 INT | 6.6 YPA | 23.0 QBR
If the Bears aren’t going to allow Fields to attempt more than 43 passes through three games, they might as well move on after the year.
30
Joe Flacco
Last Week: 29 New York Jets
2022 stats: 901 yards | 58.7 comp % | 5 TD | 3 INT | 5.8 YPA | 29.1 QBR
Flacco is throwing for yardage, but that’s because he’s thrown 155 passes this season, a league-high mark.
29
Baker Mayfield
Last Week: 25 Carolina Panthers
2022 stats: 550 yards | 51.9 comp % | 3 TD | 1 INT | 6.8 YPA | 18.8 QBR
Mayfield has been hideous to start his career in Carolina. Very few explosive plays, no accuracy, and the worst QBR of any starter in the NFL.
28
Cooper Rush
Last Week: 31 Dallas Cowboys
2022 stats: 514 yards | 62.7 comp % | 2 TD | 0 INT | 6.9 YPA | 73.7 QBR
Rush doesn’t look pretty at times, but he’s one of the league’s better backups. Two games, two wins for Dak Prescott’s understudy.
27
Jacoby Brissett
Last Week: 30 Cleveland Browns
2022 stats: 596 yards | 66.3 comp % | 4 TD | 1 INT | 6.5 YPA | 62.6 QBR
Brissett is doing his job. He’s only thrown one interception while allowing Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt and Amari Cooper to eat up yardage.
26
Daniel Jones
Last Week: 24 New York Giants
2022 stats: 560 yards | 64.1 comp % | 3 TD | 2 INT | 6.1 YPA | 34.0 QBR
Jones simply holds onto the ball too long, and doesn’t create enough big plays. It’s a recipe for disaster against good teams.
25
Geno Smith
Last Week: 26 Seattle Seahawks
2022 stats: 717 yards | 77.5 comp % | 4 TD | 2 INT | 7.0 YPA | 62.2 QBR
Smith is completing passes at a league-best rate, and the yardage is average. He’s not going to be an elite quarterback, but he’s not the reason Seattle is 1-2.

24
Davis Mills
Last Week: 23 Houston Texans
2022 stats: 662 yards | 57.9 comp % | 3 TD | 2 INT | 6.2 YPA | 27.1 QBR
Houston needs more from Mills. Yes, the roster is underwhelming, but the Texans have a few weapons headlined by receiver Brandin Cooks. We could see a first-round quarterback here.
23
Jameis Winston
Last Week: 22 New Orleans Saints
2022 stats: 858 yards | 63.5 comp % | 4 TD | 5 INT | 7.5 YPA | 35.2 QBR
Old habits are becoming a problem for Winston. He’s thrown five interceptions over the past two weeks, both losses for the Saints.
22
Mac Jones
Last Week: 21 New England Patriots
2022 stats: 786 yards | 66.0 comp % | 2 TD | 5 INT | 8.1 YPA | 35.9 QBR
Jones appears to be sidelined with a high ankle sprain, compounding what has been an ugly start for the second-year pro from Alabama. Too many mistakes.
21
Marcus Mariota
Last Week: 27 Atlanta Falcons
2022 stats: 640 yards | 63.3 comp % | 3 TD | 3 INT | 8.1 YPA | 55.8 QBR
Mariota is exceeding expectations. Throwing the ball to Kyle Pitts and Drake London, running here and there, and not making huge mistakes.
20
Carson Wentz
Last Week: 16 Washington Commanders
2022 stats: 861 yards | 63.1 comp % | 7 TD | 3 INT | 6.6 YPA | 39.9 QBR
Wentz has the yardage, but the other numbers are sub-par. The Commanders need Wentz to lead and avoid errors while making big plays. Unfortunately, that isn’t Wentz’s style.
19
Matt Ryan
Last Week: 20 Indianapolis Colts
2022 stats: 769 yards | 64.1 comp % | 3 TD | 4 INT | 6.6 YPA | 42.7 QBR
Ryan didn’t do much against the Chiefs, once again under constant pressure. Still, Ryan led a game-winning drive to upset Kansas City.
18
Jimmy Garoppolo
Last Week: 15 San Francisco 49ers
2022 stats: 365 yards | 62.0 comp % | 2 TD | 1 INT | 7.3 YPA | 28.9 QBR
Garoppolo was brutal on Sunday night in Denver, reminding everyone why the Niners gave up three first-round picks to acquire Trey Lance.
17
Ryan Tannehill
Last Week: 19 Tennessee Titans
2022 stats: 647 yards | 62.5 comp % | 3 TD | 3 INT | 8.1 YPA | 47.2 QBR
Tannehill is playing decent football, save the three picks. If he can continue a moderate ascension, the Titans can get back in the playoff race.

16
Jared Goff
Last Week: 18 Detroit Lions
2022 stats: 748 yards | 58.9 comp % | 7 TD | 2 INT | 6.7 YPA | 63.7 QBR
Goff is having a decent year, highlighted by his seven touchdown passes. The Lions actually have one of the more fun offenses to watch.
15
Kirk Cousins
Last Week: 14 Minnesota Vikings
2022 stats: 758 yards | 62.2 comp % | 5 TD | 3 INT | 6.4 YPA | 45.9 QBR
Cousins is his typical inconsistent self. The Vikings need to stretch the field more, much as they did in Week 1 against the Packers with Justin Jefferson.
14
Russell Wilson
Last Week: 13 Denver Broncos
2022 stats: 743 yards | 59.4 comp % | 2 TD | 1 INT | 7.0 YPA | 45.2 QBR
Wilson isn’t playing well. Too many missed throws. Not enough mobility. Stop worrying about yelling run or pass, just play better.
13
Kyler Murray
Last Week: 11 Arizona Cardinals
2022 stats: 784 yards | 63.8 comp % | 3 TD | 1 INT | 5.6 YPA | 49.5 QBR
Murray has played two great quarters this year. Otherwise, Murray and the Cardinals have been one of the NFL’s most lackluster teams.
12
Derek Carr
Last Week: 12 Las Vegas Raiders
2022 stats: 850 yards | 60.8 comp % | 6 TD | 4 INT | 7.1 YPA | 48.8 QBR
Carr needs to be better. The line is doing him no favors, and the run-pass balance is insanely out of whack, but the Raiders gave him great weapons … and the production isn’t there.
11
Trevor Lawrence
Last Week: 17 Jacksonville Jaguars
2022 stats: 772 yards | 69.4 comp % | 6 TD | 1 INT | 7.0 YPA | 71.1 QBR
Lawrence is breaking out. The Jaguars are 2-1 after two blowout wins, and Lawrence is completing passes, working through progressions and showing mobility. Great stuff.
10
Joe Burrow
Last Week: 8 Cincinnati Bengals
2022 stats: 812 yards | 64.0 comp % | 6 TD | 4 INT | 6.5 YPA | 47.1 QBR
Burrow and the Bengals finally got their first win of the season on Sunday, but the quarterback was average. Too many passes which were near-INTs. Not bad, but not great.
9
Matthew Stafford
Last Week: 7 Los Angeles Rams
2022 stats: 761 yards | 72.5 comp % | 4 TD | 5 INT | 7.5 YPA | 51.1 QBR
Stafford was solid against the Cardinals, only moving down two spots because of some great performances elsewhere. The Rams need more, but the last few weeks have been encouraging.

8
Tom Brady
Last Week: 5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
2022 stats: 673 yards | 65.0 comp % | 3 TD | 1 INT | 6.5 YPA | 47.5 QBR
Brady is playing decent football, but he has no help. The line is beat up, his receivers have been out of the lineup, etc. The latter should be better this week with Mike Evans returning.
7
Aaron Rodgers
Last Week: 4 Green Bay Packers
2022 stats: 684 yards | 72.3 comp % | 4 TD | 2 INT | 7.3 YPA | 48.9 QBR
Rodgers, like Brady, doesn’t have the weapons. That said, he’s managing the game, and you can bet he’ll get rolling soon.
6
Justin Herbert
Last Week: 3 Los Angeles Chargers
2022 stats: 910 yards | 66.1 comp % | 7 TD | 2 INT | 7.2 YPA | 60.9 QBR
Herbert looked nowhere near like his normal self on Sunday. The ribs are clearly bothering him, leading to inaccurate throws throughout the day.
5
Tua Tagovailoa
Last Week: 10 Miami Dolphins
2022 stats: 925 yards | 71.3 comp % | 8 TD | 2 INT | 9.2 YPA | 82.8 QBR
Tagovailoa didn’t put up huge numbers against the Bills, but made multiple big-time throws including the essential game-winner to Jaylen Waddle between the safeties.
4
Jalen Hurts
Last Week: 9 Philadelphia Eagles
2022 stats: 916 yards | 67.3 comp % | 4 TD | 1 INT | 9.3 YPA | 74.7 QBR
Right now, Hurts is the MVP. He’s throwing for more than 300 yards per game, rushing the ball with efficiency, and avoiding mistakes. A real transformation.
3
Patrick Mahomes
Last Week: 1 Kansas City Chiefs
2022 stats: 857 yards | 67.9 comp % | 8 TD | 1 INT | 7.9 YPA | 76.2 QBR
Mahomes hasn’t been himself the past two weeks. Too many 50-50 balls, too much time looking to make plays that don’t materialize. Some of this is the offensive line, but Mahomes can step up.
2
Lamar Jackson
Last Week: 6 Baltimore Ravens
2022 stats: 749 yards | 63.6 comp % | 10 TD | 2 INT | 8.5 YPA | 78.4 QBR
Jackson is having an unreal year. He’s leading the league with 10 touchdown tosses, and has rushed for 243 yards, fifth-most in the NFL. It’s a dream season so far.
1
Josh Allen
Last Week: 2 Buffalo Bills
2022 stats: 1,014 yards | 71.2 comp % | 9 TD | 2 INT | 7.7 YPA | 77.7 QBR
Allen is the engine for Buffalo. He’s the only quarterback over 1,000 yards passing, and he’s also the most reliable runner. He’s Mr. Do-It-All for the Bills.
