Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall will undergo surgery on a foot injury and miss the rest of the season, the club announced this morning.

The 20-year-old sustained a knock in the defeat at Liverpool last week and was ruled out of Sunday’s FA Cup loss to Brighton as a result.

He will now be absent when Newcastle go in search of their first domestic trophy in 70 years when they meet Liverpool again in the EFL Cup final at Wembley on March 16.

A club statement read: “Lewis Hall will miss the rest of the 2024/25 season after sustaining an injury to a bone in his foot.

“Following a scan and advice from a specialist, Lewis will undergo surgery before a period of rehabilitation with the club’s medical team.

“Wishing you all the very best for your surgery and recovery, Lewis.”

More final woe for Magpies

It is the latest blow for Newcastle ahead of the final with Anthony Gordon, who had built up a good rapport with Hall down the left-flank, also ruled out through suspension after being sent-off against Brighton.

Hall would likely have been selected in Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad after impressing on his first two Three Lions games, against Greece and the Republic of Ireland.

Tuchel names his party next week for the World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia.

England have an issue at left-back with Luke Shaw injured and Ben Chilwell rarely seen for Chelsea before joining Crystal Palace on loan in January.
