Newcastle ‘make third transfer bid of around £60m’ to Palace

Newcastle have made a third bid of up to £60 million for Marc Guehi which is at least £10m short of Crystal Palace’s valuation of the defender, according to a report.

The Magpies have offered £55m with £5m in potential add-ons for the England international, BBC Sport has said, adding that Palace value Guehi at £70m.

Palace are said to have turned down a second offer last week approaching £50m for the Chelsea academy product, who became England’s first-choice partner for John Stones in central defence on their way to the final of Uefa Euro 2024.

Guehi transfer, stats

Guehi has two years left on the five-year contract he signed when he joined Palace from the Blues for a fee rising to £20m in 2021.

Born in the Ivorian capital of Abidjan, Guehi moved to England as a one-year-old and began his youth career with Bromley-based Cray Wanderers.

A star of Chelsea’s trophy-winning under-18 side, Guehi was captain as England reached the Euro Under-17 final in 2017 and scored in the final as they won the Under-17 World Cup soon afterwards.

He spent a season-and-a-half on loan at Swansea City from January 2020, helping the at Championship club reach the play-off semi-finals in his first campaign and final in his second.

Across 111 Palace appearances, Guehi has scored five goals and become a regular captain, helping Palace achieve a defensive record that was bettered by only four top-flight teams in 2023-24.

In the absence of Harry Maguire at Euro 2024, Guehi established himself as a key player for England little more than 15 months after making his debut.

Palace reject Fulham Andersen bid

The outlet also reported that Palace have rejected a £20m bid from Fulham for one of Guehi’s partners at club level, Joachim Andersen.

The Denmark defender, who spent the 2020-21 season on loan at Craven Cottage from Lyon, is said to be valued at closer to £40m.

In their first full season under Austrian manager Oliver Glasner, Palace start their Premier League campaign at Brentford on Sunday (2pm BST).
