New York Giants’ Tyrone Tracy carted off practice field in an air cast

New York Giants rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. was carted off the playing field at the team’s practice on Tuesday morning after injuring his leg returning a kick.

Tracy was also put into an air cast, indicating the severe nature of his injury.

The injury occurred after Tracy muffed a kickoff and attempted to reach down for the ball. When he did, his leg buckled and he let out a scream as he fell to the grass.

Tracy was a fifth-round pick out of Purdue this past April who began his college career as a wide receiver at Iowa. He was in line for a healthy number of snaps in the Giants’ running back rotation this season, as well as working on special teams as a returner.

It’s a disappointing blow to the Giants’ plans should Tracy miss a significant amount of time as they attempt to replace Saquon Barkley in the offense.

Update: After practice, the Giants revealed Tracy suffered an ankle injury and was transported to the Hospital for Special Surgery for a more “comprehensive evaluation.”
