New York Giants 53-man roster projection ahead of training camp
The New York Giants will officially report to training camp on Tuesday, July 23 with the first practice being held on Wednesday, July 24. Then, prior to 4:00 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, August 27, all NFL rosters must be trimmed down to the initial 53.
Head coach Brian Daboll expects that all 91 players (one on an exemption) will arrive at training camp healthy and ready to participate fully. The sole exception to that is quarterback Daniel Jones, who is recovering from a torn ACL and may be eased back into full participation.
The top end of the Giants’ roster is largely set but there will still be plenty of jobs to be won (or lost) throughout camp. Injuries will also likely play a role but for the sake of this exercise, we’ll pretend that everyone will finish camp healthy.
With all of that in mind, here’s a Giants 53-man roster prediction ahead of training camp.
Quarterback (2)
Running back (4)
Tight end (3)
Wide receiver (6)
Offensive line (10)
Defensive line (5)
Outside linebacker (4)
Inside linebacker (6)
Cornerback (6)
Safety (4)
Specialists (3)
Notes: We went with four outside linebackers, believing that Ryder Anderson may also see time at the position. Two inside linebacker sports were taken strictly due to special teams needs, while Isaiah McKenzie narrowly missed the cut at wide receiver in favor of Gunner Olszewski (that was a tough call). There could also be a scenario where the Giants sign a veteran cornerback/defensive back with Tre Hawkins being the odd man out.
