Nets spoke with suspended Ime Udoka prior to Steve Nash dismissal (report)
It appears that the Brooklyn Nets are strongly considering Ime Udoka to take over their coaching mantle after all.
Sources told Jake Fischer of Yahoo! Sports that the Nets have reached out and spoke with Udoka before dismissing the embattled Steve Nash to his head coaching job.
This move is not surprising at all, given that Udoka has been reported as a front-runner to fill in the current coaching vacancy in Brooklyn. Not to mention, he has strong ties and familiarity on the team’s star trio in Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons.
Udoka served as an assistant for the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2019-20 season with Simmons. The following year, he took his acts in the Nets camp and was under Nash’s coaching staff.
He remains suspended from his coaching duties in the Boston Celtics after power dynamics of having an improper relationship with a team staff. As such, the franchise was detailed not hindering him if he wishes to part ways and pack his bag to head to Brooklyn.
For now, it’s only a matter of time if Udoka will ultimately be the next one to call the shots for the currently chaotic Nets team that needs an impactful voice and proper stability.
