NBA Announce Suspension of Dillon Brooks For Game 3 Against Warriors

The NBA announced that Dillon Brooks would be suspended for Game 3 of the Grizzlies-Warriors Western Conference semifinal on Saturday, per Adrian Wojnarowski.

Brooks was ejected three minutes into Game 2 after he committed a hard foul on Gary Payton II during a fast-break opportunity, ending with Payton suffering a fractured elbow that will keep him out of action for three weeks. The injury incensed the Warriors Coach Steve Kerr to the point Kerr said Brooks broke an unwritten player’s code with the foul.

“I don’t know if it was intentional, but it was dirty,” Kerr said. “There is a code. This code that players follow where you never put a guy’s season [or] career in jeopardy by taking somebody out in midair and clubbing him across the head, ultimately fracturing Gary’s elbow — He broke the code. Dillon Brooks broke the code.”

“The line is pretty clear; you don’t hit on the head when he’s in midair, breaking his elbow. That’s where the line is.”

Brooks has averaged 13.4 points per game during the Grizzlies’ 2022 playoff run.
