Najee Harris has the wrong idea about Matt Canada’s future
Najee Harris showed support of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ highly unpopular offensive coordinator Matt Canada.
Although the Pittsburgh Steelers are not making the AFC playoffs, they did give Mike Tomlin another winning season, mostly because of Najee Harris, as well as Matt Canada…
While we all admire the Steelers’ never-say-die approach to playing football, they have become blandly mediocre under Tomlin for over a decade now. A team synonymous with winning Super Bowls has not won the AFC since 2010. Harris may be an outspoken up-and-coming star in the Pittsburgh backfield, but the Steelers are not going to make noise in January if they keep Canada.
Just because Kenny Pickett was recruited by the guy does not mean we shall not blame Canada!
Najee Harris’ support of Matt Canada is not what the Pittsburgh Steelers need
Let’s be real for one second. Eventually, the Steelers will win fewer than nine games in a season. It may not ever be under Tomlin’s watch because he simply will not allow it. However, keep in mind how much better the AFC North is as a whole these days. The Cincinnati Bengals have Joe Burrow, the Baltimore Ravens have Lamar Jackson and the Cleveland Browns now have Deshaun Watson.
Pickett can sling it, but The Fake Slide King’s two-gloved nature needs to be elevated by an elite play-caller for Pittsburgh to have sustainable success in the future. We are not talking about The Geauxt, Action Jackson or Dabo Swinney’s Michael Jordan here. Pickett is every bit a trailer as a young quarterback, so he needs to have a play-caller who will get the absolute most out of him.
As for Harris, he should be just fine, no matter who is calling the plays. Running backs can largely get their own, so long as the offensive line in front of them does not resemble a wet paper bag. While we should appreciate his support of Canada, it does feel a tad misguided. Although Harris is probably not getting someone on Steve Sarkisian’s level in Pittsburgh, the Steelers do have to try.
Having the right offensive coordinator could get the Steelers a few more wins in the coming years.
