Myles Garrett situation will likely impact Giants

Cleveland Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett has formally requested a trade and that decision will likely impact the top of the 2025 NFL draft.
Meanwhile, it didn’t take long for some, including New York Giants offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor, to postulate Garrett may end up in the NFC East after he released a statement that included a desire to play for a contender.
Beyond just that possibility, it seems likely that Garrett’s situation will also indirectly influence what the Giants and general manager Joe Schoen do come April.
The Browns, who hold the No. 2 overall pick, could possibly hold on to Garrett and not grant his request to be traded. In that scenario, they may have the sell him on their plan to become a contender in the immediate future.
That sort of plan may include passing on a quarterback in the draft in favor of a veteran quarterback and instead, drafting an immediate-impact player like two-way athlete Travis Hunter or edge rusher Abdul Carter.
If that were to play out, the Giants would then have their shot at one of the top two quarterbacks in the class.
Of course, if the Browns trade Garrett away, it could signal a complete and total rebuild with a rookie quarterback at the top of their foundational list. Or it could lead Cleveland to replace Garrett with Carter, potentially kicking their plan at quarterback down the road a bit.
Then there is a trade scenario where a quarterback-needy team like the Las Vegas Raiders swoop in and move up to Cleveland’s spot, leaving the Giants potentially empty-handed.
One way or another, general manager Joe Schoen will have to pay close attention to how the Cleveland Browns-Myles Garrett situation plays out.
