A hellraiser of an infection.

Former Motörhead drummer Mikkey Dee has revealed he nearly died because of a recent sepsis infection.

The 61-year-old heavy metal rocker, who has been with the band Scorpions since 2016, shared details of his life-and-death battle on Thursday in a Facebook post.

“Just a quick statement about what has been happening to me these past three weeks,” the Swedish-born star began his statement.

“First I like to thank everyone for these heartwarming Christmas and New Years greetings, that I have not been able to respond to. I always try to do that every year.”

“This holiday season, I have been hospitalized with a very serious blood infection (Sepsis),” Dee confessed. “I was admitted for three weeks but now I am home fighting this bastard bacteria.”

Sepsis is defined by the Mayo Clinic as a serious condition that causes the body’s infection-fighting processes to turn on the body and make the body’s organs work poorly. Sepsis can lead to septic shock — a dramatic drop in blood pressure that can damage the lungs, kidneys, liver and other organs — which can be fatal.

“Thankfully, I have received fantastic care at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, [Sweden] my hometown,” the Motörhead alum added.

“So thanks a million to all the Doctors and Nurses that have been giving me the most excellent care. After several operations, I am now back home and the numbers are all going in the right direction. Still lots of recovery and rehab in front of me.”

Dee also said that he is focused on his recovery so he can perform at the Scorpions’ upcoming Las Vegas residency.

“Now I’m working a 100% to be back on the drum stool for the Residency that starts off in Las Vegas on February 27,” he wrote. “We have a tremendous 2025 to look forward to, celebrating 60 years of Scorpions and many exciting giggs [sic] around the world.”

He concluded his post by saying, “the Stinger is out and I can’t wait to see you all out there on the road and rock the hell out of you! I wish everybody a fantastic 2025 with good health and lots of Rock n’ Roll!”

Dee shared more details about his health struggles with Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet. According to the article, Dee developed the sepsis infection after spraining his foot in early December. Shortly before Christmas, his condition had worsened and he was hospitalized.

“The ankle swelled up like hell, then it took on a weird shape and appearance and looked like an overcooked ham,” Dee told the Swedish outlet, per a translation by Blabbermouth.

“I became very ill so I had to go by ambulance to Sahlgrenska and there they found that I had sky-high values, so I became priority one there.”

“It was surgery right away, the first of three,” Dee said. “They cut away what was dead and infected and badly infested. It was not a good journey I was on.”

“Another day and I’d be playing drums with Lemmy [Kilmister of Motörhead] in heaven. I can say that.”

Kilmister — the singer of the band — died from an aggressive cancer on December 28, 2015, four days after his 70th birthday.
