Moore relishing Tottenham opportunity after strong start to pre-season

Tottenham prospect Mikey Moore is loving life under Ange Postecoglou as the North London club gear up for the new Premier League season.

The Lilywhites kicked off their pre-season with a trip to Edinburgh to face Hearts earlier this week, where they won 5-1.

Postecoglou fielded a mix of youth and experience across the 90 minutes, with several academy faces impressing the travelling fans who made the 16-hour round trip.

A few of them were also on the scoresheet, including 16-year-old Moore.

The young talent was introduced in the second half and showed the whole stadium what he was about with a driving run and low finish to record his first senior goal for the club.

Moore was reportedly a wanted man before signing a new contract in North London recently, with the likes of Chelsea, Real Madrid and Arsenal all willing to pay an eight-figure sum for him.

But the Southwark-born midfielder says he wants to stay at his boyhood club and is enjoying his experience in the first team.

Speaking to the club website, he said: “It’s been different coming into a first-team environment, but it’s been really good.

“I’ve learned a lot over the time I’ve had so far and hopefully I can just keep going.

“It’s been tough in the last couple of weeks – pre-season is always tough – but it’s been a good experience getting settled in and I’m just excited for what’s to come.”

His goal against Hearts got fans off their seats to applaud as he celebrated but it is nothing keen academy watchers have not seen before.

Moore added that he is just trying to be himself on the pitch and was blown away by the supporters singing the trademark ‘He’s one of our own’ song, once reserved for Harry Kane.

He said: “To score my first goal, even though it was in a pre-season game, was probably the best feeling I’ve had so far, and to score in front of the fans as well… it was unreal!.

“The little dribble and finish… it’s what I’ve been doing in the academy so I just wanted to keep doing what I’ve been doing. Even though it was a pre-season game, it meant everything to me.

“You don’t expect it [the chant], especially when you’re just coming into the team, but I really appreciate all the fans doing it, so I want to say thanks to them really.”

Moore came on as a substitute in two Premier League matches towards the end of last season and will be hoping to get more minutes under the Australian head coach in 2024-25.

Spurs play QPR on Saturday before jetting out to Asia where they will continue their pre-season preparations.
