Mavericks re-sign Markieff Morris – TalkBasket.net
The Dallas Mavericks are bringing back Markieff Morris, the well-traveled forward who played eight games with the team last season after being part of the Kyrie Irving trade, the team announced in a press release.
This summer, Morris became a free agent without any restrictions. Throughout his professional basketball career, he has been a part of eight different NBA teams and earned an NBA championship in 2020 while playing for the Los Angeles Lakers.
In order to make space for Morris on their team, the Mavericks had to release another player. They decided to waive JaVale McGee, a 7-foot center who still had two years left on his contract.
They used the stretch clause, which spreads McGee’s remaining salary over five years, thus providing the Mavericks with some salary-cap relief for the next two seasons.
By signing Morris, the Mavericks have now reached the maximum limit of 15 players on their roster, not counting those with two-way or Exhibit 10 contracts.
Over his 12 seasons in the NBA, Morris has maintained averages of 10.6 points and 5 rebounds per game.
During the previous season, he played in eight games for the Mavericks, where he averaged 4.5 points in 8.8 minutes per game.
Morris is known for his prowess as a three-point shooter, as he achieved an impressive 39.4 percent success rate from beyond the arc in the last season he played with the Nets and Mavericks.
