Matt Ryan is the most cursed NFL player of all time
There is no way Matt Ryan will ever recover from the Indianapolis Colts’ latest collapse.
Matt Ryan should be a Pro Football Hall of Famer, but he will forever be remembered by the two worst losses in NFL history: 28-3 in Super Bowl 51 and blowing a 33-0 lead to the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday afternoon, falling 39-36 in overtime.
Ryan won NFL MVP during the 2016 season quarterbacking the NFC champion Atlanta Falcons. Had the painkillers not worn off on Alex Mack’s broken leg, Kyle Shanahan not hopelessly mailed it in and Dan Quinn not been a complete buffoon on the sidelines, I would have seen a Super Bowl parade in my lifetime. We all know what transpired after that, but today was next level sadness.
Ryan and the Indianapolis Colts somehow, someway blew a 33-0 lead at halftime to the Vikings. What if I told you Minnesota outscored Indianapolis 28-3 in the second half and overtime combined?
It will take more than a hug or a bottle of suds to get Ryan through his latest worst experience.
Matt Ryan is so hopelessly cursed that we all should feel terrible for him and the Colts
Once thought to have crossed the Ken Anderson line into Canton enshrinement, we may be stuck with the harsh reality that Ryan is merely his generation’s version of Boomer Esiason. Oh, he will kill it on TV whenever he decides to call it a career. However, the Pro Football Hall of Fame may not let him into Canton, strictly because it believes the stage would collapse if he were to walk onto it.
The worst part in all this is Ryan is everything you would want out of a franchise quarterback. He elevated the players around him for years in Atlanta. The Falcons never had back-to-back winning seasons prior to his arrival in Flowery Branch. Ryan was pure class all 14 years he spent in Atlanta, even after the Falcons decided to play flirt with Deshaun Watson and got shamelessly burnt for it.
We will never know what type of bad juju that devoured the Falcons in Houston nearly six Februarys ago, much like we will never know what on God’s green earth happened in Minneapolis on Saturday. Perhaps it was the utter blasphemy of having an interim head coach named Jeff Saturday coaching a team that typically plays on Sundays on his namesake day of the week?
For this loss to have come against the equally snakebitten Vikings makes this even more damning.
