Marcus Rashford once again ineffective and hardly seems to be trying – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United once again stumbled and were lucky to escape with a point from their Premier League game against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.

The visitors were by far the more dominant team and had 20 shots as compared to the eight that the Red Devils mustered and two individual moments from skipper Bruno Fernandes once again saved Erik ten Hag’s blushes.

The system clearly does not work with Casemiro struggling to contain the opposition while the others all push high up with the backline sitting back.

The manager could have done with his forwards hitting top gear with the team struggling but once again, Marcus Rashford let his team down.

Rashford’s dismal form continues

His form has fallen off a cliff as compared to last season when he scored 30 times to earn a brand new deal and against the Cherries, he kept running into blind alleys or opposition defenders, failing to successfully dribble even once.

The Mancunian’s effort in tracking back was non-existent yet again, and he hardly contributed to the team’s defensive efforts as he failed to make a clearance, or an interception throughout the game.

The England international kept losing all his duels, winning only one ground duel out of eight attempts and losing his solitary aerial duel (stats via sofascore).

The forward completed only 26 passes to end the game with 79 percent accuracy and had zero shots on target. Despite such a underwhelming display, Ten Hag kept him on hoping for a big moment from the academy graduate.

Rashford’s future unclear

Alejandro Garnacho’s mistake allowed Bournemouth to score first but he did help with the equaliser and deserved to stay on ahead of Rashford considering he has produced the goods more consistently than his more illustrious teammate.

There have been murmurs of INEOS being open to Rashford’s sale with his off-field controversies outshining what he has managed to produce on the field.

Inconsistencies are common for a young player but at 26, Rashford is not young anymore and is entering his prime. And his lackadaisical attitude while playing and dropping his head at the slightest obstacle has gone on too long.

With Paris Saint-Germain sniffing around, the Englishman could be on his way out of the club if he does not pull up his socks soon.
