Alejandro Garnacho says being axed for the Europa League final would influence his decision on whether to stay or leave Manchester United this summer.
The Argentina winger had been a key man in United’s run to the final but was left out of the starting XI for the clash with Tottenham in Bilbao with boss Ruben Amorim instead preferring Mason Mount.
Garnacho came on with 19 minutes of normal time remaining but failed to make much of an impact as United’s miserable season continued with a 1-0 defeat.
Garnacho pondering his future
The 20-year-old has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford in the last two transfer windows and he hinted he may now be receptive to a transfer.
“Up until the final I played every round helping the team, and today I play 20 minutes, I don’t know,” said Garnacho.
“The final will influence [my decision] but the whole season, the situation of the club. I’m going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens afterwards.”

Asked afterwards if he should have introduced Garnacho earlier, Amorim said: “How many times have we had this conversation, and it was the opposite? Some players come in, like Mason Mount, against Bilbao and changed the game.
“So now it is easy to say. Who missed the big opportunity in the first half against Bilbao? Yeah [Garnacho]. Of course, now it is easy for us to talk about a lot of views.”
Those remarks did not go down well with Garnacho’s brother Roberto, who responded on Instagram: “Working as no-one else, helping every round, coming from two goals in the last two finals, just to be on the pitch for 19 mins and get thrown under the bus.”
Shaw questions whether the players are ‘good enough’
United were abject at San Mames as Spurs clinched the trophy courtesy of Brennan Johnson’s scruffy goal late in the first half.
It is the latest setback in what has been a miserable season and defender Luke Shaw knows an improvement is required.
“It’s hard to put into words the season, but I think for a club like Manchester United, it’s not really good enough,” said Shaw, as United contemplate a season without European football for the first time in 11 years.
“I think definitely me and I think all of us have to question ourselves tonight. Are we good enough to be here? Because this club, this season, it’s not acceptable.
“We know that and it’s down to us. I think we have to look at ourselves. Something has to change.”
