Make a viral ‘Dirty Soda’ at home while SodaStream is on sale

Forget cocktails. It’s the era of the “dirty soda,” and brands like SodaStream are living for it.

With Amazon Prime Day falling right at the start of “Sober October,” shoppers are already racing to get their hands on the currently discounted SodaStream E-TERRA, the popular soda-making machine that has been blowing up thanks to a bunch of TikTokers and some Mormon moms.

“We don’t drink alcohol or do drugs, so it’s kind of our vice,” reality star Demi Engemann admitted in the promo clip of the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, which aired on Hulu on September 6.

The group of young Utah moms is part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which strongly discourages the use of caffeine, alcohol, and drugs — but has a particular obsession with over-the-top soda recipes.

On the show, the moms visited “Swig,” a popular chain in the Western United States. It’s been called the home of the dirty soda, or carbonated drinks that combine sugary syrups over cream and ice. Kind of like a mocktail, but served in a cup size comparable to a Venti Starbucks drink.

The soda shop already received celebrity approval a few years back when singer Olivia Rodrigo was caught posing with a Swig cup in hand. But now, everyone on TikTok wants to make their own dirty soda from home and is posting videos of their recipes — some of which involve the coveted SodaStream, one of the top kitchen appliances on Amazon.

SodaStream makes fresh sparkling water at the push of a button with three preset carbonation levels to choose from. The brand offers a variety of soda flavors, like lime and cherry, in addition to newly-released, non-alcoholic craft cocktail mixers for aspiring mixologists.

Tiktokers adore them and shoppers swear these soda machines are saving time and money.

The best-selling SodaStream E-TERRA Sparkling Water Maker Bundle is currently marked down 34% on Amazon ahead of Prime Day— though it’s unclear how long the deal will last considering the surging popularity of the dirty soda trend.

In the reviews section, shoppers have called their SodaStreams a “game-changer” and said the small appliances are a smart investment for anyone who goes through multiple packs of soda each week. Some even alleged that SodaStream has helped them lose weight by swapping plain sparkling water for ordinary drinks.
