Mainoo, Konsa and Gibbs-White out of Nations League games with injuries

Defender Ezri Konsa and midfielders Kobbie Mainoo and Morgan Gibbs-White have withdrawn from the England squad for the Three Lions’ October Nations League fixtures.

Gibbs-White received treatment during Nottingham Forest’s 1-1 draw at Chelsea on Sunday before being substituted, while Konsa suffered a hamstring issue during Aston Villa’s 0-0 draw against visitors Manchester United on the same day.

Mainoo was replaced for United after 85 minutes at Villa Park, having missed their  3-3 draw at Porto in the Europa League with a thigh injury three days earlier

England said on Monday that no replacements had been selected for the trio, with the remaining 22 players in Lee Carsley’s squad training.

Harry Kane injury latest

Captain Harry Kane is set to be available when the England host Greece at Wembley on Thursday (7.45pm BST) before travelling to Helsinki to face Finland on Sunday (5pm).

Bayern Munich striker Kane was substituted during his side’s 3-3 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday but has joined England after being given the all-clear in an update by his club.

The 31-year-old scored twice in 20 minutes in England’s 2-0 win over Finland at Wembley on September 10 as part of a perfect start to Carsley’s reign as interim manager.

Former Republic of Ireland international Carsley had overseen a 2-0 win in Dublin three days earlier in his first game in charge.

England vs Greece

Greece have also won their first two games in League B Group 2 in their first matches under new manager Ivan Jovanovic.

They have not won any of their nine meetings with England, failing to score in seven of those games, although their two draws came in the most recent encounters between the teams.

No team has won more games in the Nations League across the history of the competition than Greece, who have 13 victories from 20 matches.

The Euro 2004 champions are, however, winless in their last 12 matches against nations ranked inside the top five of Fifa’s rankings. England are currently fourth.
