Liverpool turn attention to Manchester United target Gleison Bremer – Man United News And Transfer News
1
Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing Manchester United target Gleison Bremer.
The Red Devils have already impressively landed Leny Yoro this summer but the misfortunate injury he picked up against Arsenal once again highlighted the lack of quality depth the club have in this position.
For this reason, United have been linked to the signing of Matthijs de Ligt and have had an agreement on personal terms for weeks.
The issue is that Bayern Munich and the Red Devils cannot currently agree on the structure of the deal to bring the giant former Ajax man to Old Trafford despite the Bavarians desire to sell.
Therefore, United may need to look elsewhere if they want to bring in another centre back should Victor Lindelof be sold.
Erik ten Hag’s side have held a long-term interest in Juventus centre back Gleison Bremer but a move could be under threat from their bitter rivals, Liverpool.
TEAMtalk say that Bremer “is emerging as a top target for Liverpool boss Arne Slot before the close of the transfer window.
“Juventus are keen to keep hold of Bremer, with the defender under contract with the Bianconeri until 2028 and his release clause not kicking in until next summer.
“But Liverpool are ready to test Juventus’s resolve by firming up their interest in Bremer with a big offer for the centre-back.”
The Red Devils were heavily mentioned as a possible destination for the Brazilian in the spring but their focus shifted to Jarrad Branthwaite, who they have had two bids rejected for, Yoro and De Ligt.
The 27 year old has been one of the best defenders in Serie A for some time now has he has been named in the league’s team of the season the past three years in a row. He also won the league’s best defender award in the 2021/22 season.
United were said to be willing to pay his release clause and offer him €10 million a year but as discovered later, no release clause exists this year.
Therefore in June it was relayed here that Erik ten Hag’s side had withdrawn their interest in the defender.
Nonetheless, Bremer has hinted that he would be interested in trying his hand at a different league and perhaps if they continue to be frustrated in their pursuit of De Ligt and Branthwaite, their arch rival’s interest may just draw United out.
