Liverpool star Mohammed Salah out to exact revenge against Real Madrid

Liverpool star forward Mohammed Salah got his wish last night after Real Madrid reversed their first-leg defeat against Manchester City in the semi-final of the Champions League, securing passage into another major European final after they needed extra time to condemn Pep Guardiola to another missed opportunity to secure Europe’s top prize.

For Salah, the chance to exact revenge on the La Liga giants was at the core of his thinking when he recently revealed his desire to set the record straight after Madrid saw Liverpool off in the final at Kyiv’s NSC Olimpiyskiy stadium in 2018 in a 3-1 win.

Now, Salah is ready to put Madrid to the sword claiming ‘it’s revenge time’ after seeing Real book passage to the Stade de France in Paris.

“Yeah. It’s revenge time. They beat us in the final last time. It was a very sad day for all of us, so yeah. We have to focus on the Premier League first. We have four games left and so do City. We wish they will drop points. We just need to focus on the Spurs game and then go from there.”

“I said I wanted to play them in the final. I’m sure it’s going to be a tough game. They beat a lot of good teams but I’m excited. The team is excited. We need to stay focused. We have to finish the league first, then we will see.” (quotes via the Liverpool Echo)

Salah also reflected on the chance that Liverpool has to secure a historic quadruple this season under Jürgen Klopp, especially after City’s failure to make their first-leg lead count against Madrid, which could have knock-on consequences in the Premier League title race.

“Not everything is in our hands but we have to win our games. Manchester City has a great team with a great manager and I’m sure they want to keep winning to take the Premier League. We just need to focus on our games. Three trophies are in our hands. The other one – City has to drop points but I think it’s possible.”

“Most of us have been together for five years now. We know what it takes to win. We just need to focus and give 100%. We were 2-0 down in the last game and we came back – that’s really important for our mindset. We have the mindset that we can win any trophy.”

And it begins in a difficult fashion for Liverpool as they are set to clash with Antonio Conte’s Champions League-chasing Tottenham on Saturday evening when Spurs look to invade the red half of Merseyside and strip the Reds of a chance to secure their second league title in three seasons.
