Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet reunite at ‘Lee’ screening
They’ll never let go of their friendship.
“Titanic” stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet reunited on Tuesday night at the screening of Winslet’s new film “Lee” at Harmony Gold in Los Angeles.
DiCaprio, 50, hosted the event and introduced Winslet to the audience with an emotional speech.
“Kate, my dear friend. Your work in this film has been nothing short of transformative,” said DiCaprio in a video shared on X (formerly Twitter).
“I continue to be awestruck,” went on. “I continue to admire your strength, your integrity, your talent, and your passion to every single project that you create. Without further ado, one of the great talents of my generation: the one and only Kate Winslet.”
As the crowd cheered, Winslet came on stage and gave DiCaprio an innocent kiss on the lips and a sweet hug.
The pair also took a photo together in front of a poster for Winslet’s new film. The “Mare of Easttown” star wore a black blazer with a matching top, while DiCaprio wore a navy blue blazer and black shirt.
Winslet plays WWII journalist Lee Miller in the biopic directed by Ellen Kuras.
The film took eight years to make and had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. The cast also includes Marion Cotillard, Andrea Riseborough, Andy Samberg, Josh O’Connor and Alexander Skarsgard.
Winslet and DiCaprio have stayed friends since “Titanic” came out 27 years ago.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight last year, Winslet said that she and DiCaprio “click immediately, right away” on the set of James Cameron’s beloved movie.
“He was this kind of mess of long, skinny, uncoordinated limbs,” Winslet recalled of her former co-star. “And he was just very free with himself, and he had this effervescent energy that was really magnetic.”
“And I remember thinking, ‘Oh, this is gonna be fun. We’re definitely gonna get along.’ And we just really did. We just really did,” she added.
Winslet also confirmed that the duo are still close and never miss each other’s calls.
“You know, if you think about it, in the world that we live in now, to have friendships that bind you, and that shared history, it’s really something,” she said.
In 2021, DiCaprio and Winslet had a special reunion after not seeing each other for three years because of the pandemic. Winslet told The Guardian that she “couldn’t stop crying” when she finally caught up with the “Great Gatsby” star in LA.
“I’ve known him for half my life!” she said, adding, “He’s my friend, my really close friend. We’re bonded for life.”
