Despite being just a few moments away from becoming the NBA’s all-time scoring king, LeBron James admitted that the impending ultimate feat won’t mean that much weight as he and the Los Angeles Lakers are still climbing over the hump.

In an exclusive interview with ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, James aired his desire to still grab needed win marks, noting that personal accomplishments “don’t feel right” with him when he is dwelling at the losing end.

“I want to win. [The losing is] not sitting well with me,” James said. “I don’t like having accomplishments, and it don’t feel right, when it comes in a losing effort. … So as we sit here right now as a franchise and as a team that’s below .500 — we’ve been playing some good basketball as of late, but we want to and I want to win at the highest level. Breaking records or setting records or passing greats in a losing effort has never been a DNA of mine.”

This Friday, the Lakers have picked up their third-straight win, outmaneuvering the Atlanta Hawks, 130-114, in front of the Crypto.com Arena crowd.

While the recent victory serves as a delight that allowed them to still approach 2023 with an unblemished 3-0 card, the ball club still has a lot of work to do. By looking at the standings, Los Angeles (18-21) sits at the 12th place of the highly competitive Western Conference and still need two more wins to be able to at least occupy the last slate of the Play-In tournament.

James and his troop has a current task that is too much daunting to complete with Anthony Davis and some other key rotational pieces inactive due to injuries, but they are certainly locked in to be back on the postseason stage after failing last year in a disastrous fashion.

With less than 500 points needed to topple the great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in occupying the historic throne that the retired great held since 1984, James is truly looking for a much bigger picture – continue to play games and allow his scoring effort to contribute in clinching wins.

“Me being out on the floor, trying to get the scoring LeBron James admits being uncomfortable in getting accomplishments while losing: ‘It don’t feel right, when it comes in a losing effort’ in games that don’t matter, it felt so corny to me. So, I was like, I’m not even going [to play],” he said. “So that has never mattered to me unless it was about winning.”
