Larry Fitzgerald dropped the nuclear Aaron Rodgers trade option
Former NFL wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald suggested another possible landing spot for quarterback Aaron Rodgers if he were to request a trade.
For quarterback-needy teams this NFL offseason, they are awaiting to find out exactly Aaron Rodgers wants to do. The thing is, they’ll have to wait once he returns from his “darkness retreat.” Once that happens, he will have to decide whether he wants to stay with the Green Bay Packers, request a trade elsewhere, or retire. When it comes to teams that are listed as possible destinations for Rodgers, they are the New York Jets and Las Vegas Raiders.
During the latest episode of Sirius XM’s “Let’s Go!” podcast, former NFL wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald suggested another potential landing spot for Rodgers — the Dallas Cowboys.
“There’s a lot of conversations about the Jets. If I was Aaron, that wouldn’t be the most enticing route. It would be something a lot more controversial, like for him to go to the Dallas Cowboys,” said Fitzgerald. “He can be reunited with Mike McCarthy and have a team around him that’s ready made. Top three defenses in the league and a plethora of weapons outside. Obviously they have to make a decision with Ezekiel Elliott and his future. But hoping [Tony] Pollard is coming back and he’s healthy. I mean, they have a really really strong offense.”
Larry Fitzgerald suggests Cowboys as Aaron Rodgers landing spot
Dallas would certainly be a wild landing spot for Rodgers. As Fitzgerald mentions, he does have a relationship with Mike McCarthy, whom he praised prior to the Packers-Cowboys game this past season. While the offense is a bit of a question mark considering the decision they have to make at the running back position, the Cowboys’ defense is strong.
The Cowboys do have Dak Prescott under contract for the next two seasons. In that deal, per Spotrac, Prescott has a no-tag and no-trade clause.
Again, the NFL world is waiting for Rodgers to return from his “retreat” to make his decision. According to longtime Green Bay writer Bob McGinn, via Ty Dunne’s “Go Long TD Podcast”, the Packers are “disgusted” and “done with him.” If that is the case, the Packers have an easy pivot with Jordan Love, their 2020 first-round pick.
When it comes to landing spots, Fitzgerald suggests the Cowboys as a better landing spot than the Jets.
