LaMelo Ball forced to cover neck tattoo
The NBA is acknowledging that Charlotte Hornets star guard LaMelo Ball is being required to conceal his new neck tattoo due to a violation of league policy.
The 22-year-old had the “LF” tattooed just below his left ear in September, symbolizing his middle name and his LaFrancé clothing line. However, he has recently covered it with a bandage.
NBA spokesman Tim Frank explained in a statement to ESPN on Friday that this action is necessary because “players are prohibited from displaying commercial logos or corporate insignia on their body or in their hair during games.”
“We try to enforce the rule reasonably, in accordance with its purpose, and taking into account players’ efforts to express themselves in a non-commercial manner,” Frank added.
“But LaMelo Ball’s neck tattoo is in obvious violation of the rule and, accordingly, he’s required to cover it.”
