Juventus star Federico Chiesa looking for a way out, would prefer moving to Manchester United – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United began their pre-season tour of the United States with a 1-2 defeat against Arsenal on Sunday. But that was not the worrying part.

New signing Leny Yoro and new No 9 Rasmus Hojlund both suffered injuries with United currently having no fit direct alternative for the Dane.

Joshua Zirkzee is yet to join training and will take time to get match-fit. United could be forced to dip into the market should the 21-year-old’s injury be serious.

The only way United can afford another forward is if the likes of Jadon Sancho and Facundo Pellistri get moved on after Mason Greenwood’s departure.

Another forward?

The Red Devils have internally discussed about potential moves for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ivan Toney, with the Brentford man only under consideration should the Bees reduce their asking price.

There could be another option as per La Gazzetta dello Sport who have claimed that the 20-time English league champions have enquired about Federico Chiesa and among all his suitors, the Italian prefers moving to Old Trafford.

New Juventus manager Thiago Motta does not consider the 26-year-old as an integral part of his project, something the forward was asking for along with a considerable sum of money.

The player would prefer a move to the Premier League and his agent is in London, speaking to both Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea. The Old Lady are asking for €25-30 million but with only a year left in his contract, he is likely to fetch a lot less.

“The player (Chiesa) would like a central role in the project that the club cannot guarantee him, since for the coach he is a expendable player. This is the reason why in recent weeks Chiesa has been taking his time looking at possible market opportunities.

“There have been several inquiries about Chiesa: from Bayern Munich and some English clubs, not least Manchester United, which the player has indicated as a preferred destination. However, Ramadani’s latest movements in London need to be monitored: in addition to Tottenham, there has been contact with Chelsea.”

“At Continassa they would like to cash in on the transfer of Chiesa for around 25-30 million, but they are willing to negotiate lower because the transfer would still generate a saving of around 12 million on the gross salary for the last year.”

Chiesa an option

Chiesa’s form since his injury has not been great and the Italy international struggled at the recent Euros. However, he did show signs of improvement last season, netting 10 goals and registering three assists in 29 starts.

He can play upfront, on the wings but is mostly used as a withdrawn forward, something United have tried in certain games with Ten Hag valuing versatility very highly.

The player’s agent seems to be trying to earn his client a move abroad but a deal within the Serie A still seems more likely considering his fitness and form woes since his ACL injury in 2022.

Whether Chiesa can adapt to the pace and physicality of the English top-flight also remains doubtful but maybe with a lowered asking price, he could generate a fair amount of interest towards the end of the window.
