Francisco Lindor’s got the slimmest cuticles in Queens.
The Mets star shortstop said that he was “biting [his] nails,” biding his time and hoping for the best as Juan Soto’s decision-of-a-lifetime loomed this past week.
“Just like a fan, [I was] enjoying the whole process,” Lindor told MLB.com.
Soto, 26, with his newly minted 15-year, $765 million contract from the Mets, can afford his new teammate a manicure. Or two.
Lindor, 31, was repeatedly linked to the Mets recruitment efforts throughout the process.
In mid-November, TMZ reported that Lindor had flown to Los Angeles to join Mets owner Steve Cohen’s Amazin’ mission, though The Post found that the shortstop was actually in the Land of Angels for an Oakley photoshoot.
As it turns out, Lindor didn’t even text Soto as he was working his way through his decision, MLB.com reported.
It was only after Soto’s announcement that he’d chosen the Mets over the Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox and other suitors that Lindor sent his new teammate a text.
“I said, ‘Congratulations, my brother, enjoy,’” Lindor told MLB.com. “‘This is fantastic for you, for your family. Have a moment for yourself, and then let’s get to work.’”
Lindor’s public approval of the deal was even more succinct. A post to Instagram from the four-time All-Star included no words, just three wide-eyed emojis.
Soto joins a star-studded roster with dynasty-level aspirations. Opposing NL arms are already waking up in cold sweats: the Lindor-Soto duo has the potential to match or even exceed the explosive Aaron Judge-Soto prowess that rocked the Bronx as the Yankees reached the World Series last season.
