Josh Giddey hoping for Ben Simmons’ service for Austalia in 2024 Olympics
Oklahoma City Thunder darling guard Josh Giddey is certainly optimistic about the prospect of having Ben Simmons at their side for the Australian Boomers’ 2024 Olympic campaign.
As such, he is acknowledging the fact that Simmons remains on his way towards full enlightenment in playing basketball.
“Obviously he was dealing with some stuff with Philly and then [made] a fresh start in Brooklyn,” Giddey said, via Josh Alston of the Daily Mail Australia.
“People forget that Ben’s an All-Star. He was, I mean he is one of the best players in the league. He’s obviously going to need time find his feet, he hasn’t played for a long time in the NBA.”
Simmons, who sat down for the whole 2022-23 season after a disgruntled stand-off with the Philadelphia 76ers and a nagging back woes, has been rusty so far for the Brooklyn Nets.
As he appeared in six regular season games, the 26-year-old swingman is only averaging 5.6 points, 6.6 assists and 6.0 boards in 29.6 minutes of play. He has been a black hole in his two-way production who can’t help enough the Nets currently this time.
Simmons is eligible to play under the proud colors of Australia, but missed plenty of opportunities on some of the international basketball’s biggest stages in Olympics and World Cup from the past few years. But Giddey is hopeful that in 2024, he’ll be on board in helping to lead the country in a potential gold medal run.
“I’m excited for what he [Simmons] can do and hopefully soon we can both be a part of the Boomers together and help Australia win a gold medal.”
