Joe Hugill puts in yet another limp performance in crucial Burton Albion victory – Man United News And Transfer News

Joe Hugill’s individual struggles continued as he failed to make any real impact in his side’s crucial win versus Reading.

Burton Albion took a giant step towards safety with a crucial 3-2 win at the Pirelli stadium versus Reading.

The Brewers are now five points clear of the relegation zone, with their closest rivals Cheltenham Town only having two games left.

Burton had 10 shots on goal and regularly worked the Reading keeper by getting seven on target. They only managed to keep 32% of the ball but were able to carry a strong threat on the counter.

Hugill however was once again a peripheral figure in the match and his poor form has become a worrying trend.

The 2022 Youth Cup winner is highly rated at Carrington but the cold truth is that he has only managed one goal in 19 matches for the League One side.

His performances have seen him drop down to the bench and he was brought on for the final 26 minutes of the match.

The 20-year-old was given a score of 6.7 on Sofascore but failed to take any shots during the whole time he was on the pitch.

What’s more, he was only able to make two successful passes from an attempted four. He also lost both of his aerial duels.

The young striker lost possession four times and committed two fouls.

To be fair, Burton were holding on for a crucial win, so were hardly knocking down the door in search of goals, which probably contributed to Hugill’s incredibly weak attacking statistics.

He did contribute defensively, making one clearance and two successful tackles, as his side held on for a crucial victory.

While Hugill has massively failed to contribute goals, he has at least racked up a significant amount of minutes and a loan in a professional league where there is so much at stake, will certainly stand him in good stead for the future.

While it is certainly far too early to write Hugill off at just 20 years old, he will hope that he can use his experience this season to make more impact for his next loan club.

He will aim to sign off in style when Burton travel to Fleetwood next Saturday, where they will hope results have already gone their way and they can enjoy a rare pressure-free afternoon.
