Jerry Jones wholly denies ridiculous Terrell Owens, Cowboys rumors

Anyone with sense could’ve seen right through the Terrell Owens rumors about returning to the Cowboys but Jerry Jones put it totally to bed. 

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been incredibly vocal about one wide receiver in the second half of the regular season and potentially adding him to the roster: Odell Beckham Jr. However, it’s become abundantly clear that’s not going to happen, at least for the 2022 campaign.

The team’s decision to sign veteran TY Hilton has already paid some dividends and it seems as if the organization is happy to move forward with the group they have, especially with James Washington now healthy enough to potentially get on the field as well.

And that’s what made it all the more baffling when there were reports stemming from Terrell Owens’ agent that the 49-year-old Hall-of-Fame wide receiver had spoken with Jones and the Cowboys front office multiple times about a return to Dallas and the NFL.

It seemed a bit far-fetched but it still gained steam for a moment. But now Jerry Jones has spoken on the matter after the team’s Week 17 win on Thursday over the Titans and it was an emphatic shutdown of the rumors.

“I’ve never talked to him or his agent,” Jones said. “And I will not seriously consider it.”

This comes as quite the shock.

A team that is now 12-4 after winning in Nashville doesn’t want to sign a receiver who is almost 50 years old and hasn’t been in the league in basically a decade at this point. Who could’ve ever seen this coming? Even for the eccentric Jones, that’s too much of a publicity stunt to ever seriously consider.

As for the Cowboys receiving corps, they’re looking just fine. In two games since signing, Hilton has been impressive with five receptions for 102 yards, including a game-changing 52-yard grab in the win over the Eagles. Meanwhile, CeeDee Lamb is living up to his WR1 billing with 102 catches, 1,307 yards and eight touchdowns on the year. And there is still Michael Gallup, Washington, Noah Brown and tight end Dalton Schultz, among others.

There was never a need for Terrell Owens in Dallas. In fact, the only need was likely for Owens to get his name back in the conversation. So at least that worked, right?
