Jazz shifted focus to young core, extending Markkanen’s contract
When last season ended, the Utah Jazz were prepared to go ‘big game hunting’ this offseason per CEO Danny Ainge. The expectation was that the team would aggressively pursue high-profile stars to bolster the roster and make a serious push towards contention.
However, plans shifted, and instead of landing a big-name player, Utah ended up using most of their cap space to renegotiate-and-extend Lauri Markkanen, who had an outstanding season, and to sign a handful of veteran role players to complement the existing core.
