Jay Williams: “Nikola Jokic is the best one-man offense”
After Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope said that Nikola Jokic and LeBron James are similar, except for athleticism.
Former NBA player turned analyst Jay Williams tends to agree with that assessment. He went even further to say that this postseason’s version of Jokic is the best one-man offense in NBA history.
“Yes. So I’ve been putting a lot of thought into this,” Williams said when asked if he agrees with KCP’s comparison. “I truly do believe that Nikola Jokic is the best one-man offense in this postseason in the history of the NBA. In this postseason. Best one-man offense the game of basketball has ever seen in this postseason.”
Williams broke down the Serbian superstar’s number, emphasising how he makes his teammates better and is very efficient at the same time.
“The way that he impacts so many varieties of the game offensively. This does go with numbers: 31 points per game, 10.1 assists per game, 13.5 rebounds per game. I add efficiency into this as well. 56% shooting from the floor, 51% shooting from the three-point line. So it’s the offense in which he’s able to play as a facilitator. The passing is off the charts.
“It is his rebounding and the second, the third, the fourth chance opportunities because he literally volleyballs the ball up there multiple times. It’s his basketball IQ that he has from making people around him better.
“People when they talk about one-man offenses you hear stuff like Steph and Steph numbers are incredible too. But does Steph make people better at the rate Jokic does? And the efficiency for Jokic is different than Russell Westbrook. The shooting percentages are better than a LeBron James. The efficiency of it.
“So when you put all of it together, it’s hard for me to find a better one-man offense in the history of the game that impacts all these aspects of the offense other than Nikola Jokic.”
