A year after recovering from a stroke, Jamie Foxx’s 57th birthday took an unexpected turn on Friday when the actor sustained an injury requiring stitches.
Foxx was celebrating at Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills when a physical altercation broke out, and someone from another table allegedly threw a glass at him, according to his publicist.
“Jamie Foxx was at his birthday dinner when someone from another table threw a glass that hit him in the mouth,” the rep told CNN. “He had to get stitches and is recovering. The police were called and the matter is now in law enforcement’s hands.”
The Beverly Hills Police Department is investigating the incident, which happened shortly after 10 p.m. on Friday.
A report of a possible assault with a deadly weapon was made, but officers later concluded that the claim was unfounded. Instead, they determined the situation involved a physical altercation between the parties, and no arrests were made.
The incident occurred just days after the release of Foxx’s Netflix special What Had Happened Was…, which explores his health crisis last April, including a brain bleed and stroke. He first appeared publicly following the stroke in December, when he accepted the Critics Choice Association’s Vanguard Award.
Foxx’s health scare occurred during the filming of his upcoming Netflix action-comedy Back in Action, which he will star in alongside Cameron Diaz. The film will premiere on January 17.
