After a disappointing end to the season, the 76ers are facing some tough questions about the team’s future. High on that list is James Harden’s contract situation.

The 33-year-old superstar has a player option for next year which he can decline until June 29. Harden said after Game 7 against the Celtics that he has not even thought about his plans for next year.

According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelbourne, a major factor in Harden’s decision for next season is whether Doc Rivers stays as the Sixers’ head coach.

Reportedly, the former league MVP does not want to return to Philadelphia is Rivers remains in charge of the team. “One person said to me it would be hard for me to see James wanting to come back and play for Doc again,” Shelbourne said, via ClutchPoints.

The player was brief when asked about his relationship with Rivers after Game 7. “Our relationship is okay,” he said.

Harden averaged 21 points, 6.1 rebounds and 10.7 assists in 36.8 minutes per game this season.
