James Harden deflects rumors of probable Rockets free agency reunion with Sixers rolling their eight-game win skid: ‘We’re playing very well and I don’t know where that report came from’
James Harden has no other outside ideas about the sudden murmurs that he intends to aim for a reunion with the Houston Rockets in the next offseason.
Before the Philadelphia 76ers’ Christmas day win over the New York Knicks, the narrative has quickly shifted to these rumors, with Harden downplaying the speculations.
“Why would you ask me about that on Christmas, man?” Harden said, via Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “You didn’t say Merry Christmas or nothing. You asked me about something that I ain’t even … I’m not answering. I didn’t see nothing.”
As such, the Sixers just recently picked up their eighth-straight win over the Knicks, 119-112, tied for the current longest in the league. As they continue to blaze off for a higher conference standing, Harden stands as the floor general of the club with his playmaking wits and still high-powered scoring.
The future hall of famer can only insist that there is no such reason to add more chirpings given the current sizzling run of the Sixers.
“I’m here,” he added (h/t USA TODAY’s Ky Carlin). “We’re playing very well and I don’t know where that report came from, but I’m excited to be here and we’re playing very well. We’re continuing to get better.”
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported this Sunday that the future hall of famer is “seriously considering” a return to Houston next free agency should he decides to leave Philadelphia.
Harden notably signed a two-year, $68.6 million contract last summer, with a player option for the 2023-2024 season. Should he opt out, it will make him a free-agent and eligible to sign any deal with the team that would suit his preferences.
A possible reconnection with the Rockets may seem unexpected, but only time can tell what will happen, as the All-Star guard remains committed to seize his championship window in Philly this 2022-2023 campaign.
