Their Sunday night counterpart in the Los Angeles Lakers, despite the loss, have seen significant progress around their centerpiece LeBron James, who now appeared on the sidelines and moving well without a walking boot in his injured foot.

But for the New York Knicks, their scenario seems unpleasant with Jalen Brunson.

Brunson supported his Knicks team on the sidelines with street clothes on, but he was spotted wearing a walking boot that covered his bruised left foot.

While he was listed as out on a day-to-day basis with x-ray results showing he didn’t sustain significant damage, Brunson’s return still got no timetable per coach Tom Thibodeau.

“Just continue to do his treatments and we’ll see where he is. When he’s ready to go, he’s ready to go,” Thibodeau said following the Knicks’ 112-108 win over the Lakers, per New York Post’s Peter Botte. “It’s not Jalen by himself. It’s Jalen with the medical. So he’s got a say in it, but the medical has to clear him. So there’s a number of people involved in a decision. We’re not going to put him in harm’s way.

“So if he gets cleared and he feels good, he’ll play. And if he needs more time, he’ll get more time and it’s not just Jalen, it’s all of our players.”

Brunson sustained his injury in the Knicks’ loss against the Sacramento Kings wherein he was announced as leaving the game prematurely. His appearance against the Kings marked his comeback from a two-game absence due to a sore left foot.

With that, Brunson’s wearing of a walking boot is cryptic enough to offer hints that his left foot needs ample recovery.

With their win against the Lakers, the Knicks now have a 7-7 record when Brunson isn’t activated to play. While this may seem fair as they managed to split the matchups with their primary floor general out, the club is surely hoping that he’ll be available soon.

For now, the Knicks are leaning on the production of their Sixth Man candidate Immanuel Quickley, who is doing a satisfying job so far in place of Brunson.

New York exits California sitting in the sixth-place of the Eastern Conference with a 40-30 card. They will look to regain the top-five slate as they cap off their four-game road trip against the Portland Trail Blazers this Tuesday.
