Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi said his side punched above their weight as they knocked out Bayern Munich in a Champions League thriller at San Siro.
Former Tottenham duo Harry Kane and Eric Dier were on target for the visitors but two quick goals from set pieces by Lautaro Martinez and Benjamin Pavard were enough for Inter to progress 4-3 on aggregate to face Barcelona in the semi-finals.
Inter reached the final in 2023 – losing to Rodri’s strike for Manchester City – and last lifted the trophy in 2010, also against Bayern.
Inzaghi said: “It’s a beautiful evening, coming against a very strong team.

“It took two great games but the lads were splendid. It’s a victory to share with everyone.
“Now let’s move on: it’s a long and difficult season but it’s giving us so many emotions.
“Against a team like that it gives you even more satisfaction: beyond budget and salaries.
“This feels like Inter’s year” 👀

“Bayern are extraordinary but we responded blow for blow both in Munich and here at San Siro. We’ve been together with these lads for almost four years despite all the difficulties.
“We built a team that brought trophies, a satisfaction that repays the work.”
No Italian side has won the Champions League since Jose Mourinho’s Inter managed it 15 years ago, with Inter’s defeat two years ago and Juventus losing finals in 2015 and 2017 the closest anyone has come.
