Heat likely to sign Kelly Oubre Jr. if Damian Lillard trade succeeds
More than two months ago, Damian Lillard made a clear request to the Portland Trail Blazers, expressing his desire to join the Miami Heat after an impressive 11-year stint with his former team.
However, the Heat’s attempts to meet Portland’s trade demands and bring Lillard to Miami have faced challenges in recent weeks.
NBA insider Marc Stein, in a Substack report, has shed light on another potential development. Stein notes, “Multiple teams I’ve spoken to recently expect free agent swingman Kelly Oubre Jr. to ultimately land with the Miami Heat … provided that the Heat are ultimately successful in their quest to trade for Portland’s Damian Lillard.”
This revelation suggests that if the Heat can successfully secure Lillard in a trade, they may also bolster their roster with the addition of the versatile swingman, Kelly Oubre Jr.
Last season Oubre averaged career-high 20.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 32.3 minutes per game for the Hornets.
