Halle Berry claims she has spent $200K trying to ‘work with’ ex Olivier Martinez co-parenting son
Halle Berry claims that she’s spent nearly a quarter of a million dollars trying to co-parent her son with ex-husband Olivier Martinez amid their bitter custody battle.
The “Catwoman” actress claimed in court documents filed Wednesday and obtained by Us Weekly that she has spent over $200,000 in legal fees to fight for custody over their 10-year-old son, Maceo — including $80,000 that went to “voluntarily” paying for Martinez’s own legal expenses.
“I have done everything possible to work with Olivier, to communicate with him, and to engage him in the decision-making process regarding our son in an amicable way,” she wrote in the court documents.
Berry, 58, argued that her ex has “refused to co-parent and communicate with me in a child-centered way” and that he has instead “been oppositional and unmovable on all major issues relating to Maceo.”
The “Monster’s Ball” actress –– who filed for sole custody last month –– initially agreed to share custody last year, but she has to pay the “Unfaithful” actor $8,000 per month in child support and continues to pay for his education.
“As Olivier has advised this court, he lives off my child support and in order to be able to pay child support, I have to go to work. I do not have the luxury of taking months off,” she continued.
Another point of contention between the two revolved around their previously agreed “co-parenting therapy” to “resolve disputes and conflicts between them in an effort to successfully co-parent.”
However, Berry now claims that Martinez “terminated” his sessions earlier in the summer without informing her.
Berry also included messages between her and her ex where she pleaded with her ex to “try” and get along with her, even though she has moved on and been in a relationship with Van Hunt since 2020.
“I feel very sorry that we are at odds. I had better hopes for us. I always hoped that we do better for Maceo and work together like we did before Van came along.
“It’s all has gone to s–t since then. We used to try to get along for maceos [sic] sake, now you don’t want to even try and I’ve tried Oliver… you know I have,” she wrote in the messages.
The Oscar winner urged Martinez to “let all this anger go and do better,” because she’s “tired of fighting” with him.
“If you want to keep this negativity going that’s on you, but I want no parts of it… we need to ban [sic] together now more than ever. However we face it we need to face it together not fighting. Just my opinion, but you will make your choice,” she concluded.
However, Martinez didn’t seem too interested in her plea and instead wrote back, “The only way to work together is to work ur [sic] way. thats [sic] not working together. u re [sic] playing dirty as you always did not putting maceos [sic] best interest first but karma is coming no worrys [sic].”
Page Six previously reported that she filed for sole custody last month because of Martinez’s “turbulent and detrimental behavior” that has affected Maceo as he learns to manage his own “serious behavior and learning problems.”
Berry alleged that Maceo would often return to her care angry and behind in his studies.
The former couple broke up in 2015 after being together for five years and being married for the last two.
Berry also has 16-year-old daughter, Nahla, whom she shares with her ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry.
