Gray opens up on ‘crazy’ first few weeks at Tottenham

Tottenham’s latest addition Archie Gray says he has had a blast during his first few weeks at the club.

The 18-year-old signed from Leeds in a deal that could exceed £40million and he has already impressed fans of the club.

Gray has had to fill in at centre-back for Spurs’ pre-season games so far in the absence of Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Radu Dragusin, but he has looked calm and composed at his new home.

The Young Lion plays his best football at either right-back or central midfield but will have a tough time unseating some of Tottenham’s current crop of staring stars.

However, Gray remains nothing but positive as he continues to settle in and he will feature throughout the club’s tour of Japan and South Korea in the coming weeks.

Speaking to club media, he said: “It has been brilliant so far.

“I have enjoyed training a lot and just getting to know everyone. It has been a bit crazy.

“I have been watching them on TV since I was fifteen, perhaps even younger, especially Ben [Davies] and people like [Heung-Min] Son – they are players I have looked up to.

“It is just mental to think that I will hopefully be playing with them. It has been good so far.”

10 up for Davies

Gray mentioned Ben Davies as an inspiration for him while growing up and it is no surprise that the Welshman sits high in his estimations.

The defender has recently marked his tenth year at Spurs, making him the longest-serving player at the club.

He reflected on the last decade and admitted putting the white shirt on never gets old.

Davies said: “It’s one of those things where it’s obviously a long time, but it’s felt very quick. There have been plenty of ups, plenty of downs as well, but I wouldn’t have it any other way… it’s been great.

“There are so many highlights, but I think back to when I made my debut for this club, the first time you pull on the shirt, you realise the magnitude of this club, you realise who you are playing for, and you feel that responsibility.

“Over 10 years later, that feeling has never gone away.”
