Giants are betting favorites to sign this four-time All-Pro safety
The Denver Broncos waived four-time Second Team All-Pro safety Justin Simmons in an effort to save $14.5 million against the salary cap back in March. Surprisingly, the 30-year-old remains available.
With obvious and glaring needs in their secondary, the New York Giants could become a potential destination. In fact, BetOnline has them as the odds-on favorites to land the prized free agent.
As of this writing, the Giants are +400 to sign Simmons, just ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles (+600) and Buffalo Bills (+800). The San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns are also listed at +900 each.
Simmons, who is also a two-time Pro Bowler, has appeared in 118 career games (108 starts) and recorded 604 tackles (443 solo, 19 for a loss), five QB hits, 4.5 sacks, 64 passes defensed, 30 interceptions, and one defensive touchdown.
In 2022, Simmons led the NFL with six interceptions.
The veteran would be an ideal option for the Giants if general manager Joe Schoen valued the safety position but after allowing Julian Love and Xavier McKinney to walk in back-to-back years, it’s clear that he doesn’t.
In addition to Simmons, BetOnline also has the Giants at +700 to sign veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore (third-best odds) and +400 to sign four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Xavien Howard (best odds).
One way or another, BetOnline expects the Giants to add a body to their secondary ahead of training camp.
