Giannis Antetokounmpo explains scuffle against Pacers
In an unforgettable performance, Giannis Antetokounmpo etched his name in the Milwaukee Bucks’ history books, scoring a franchise-record 64 points to secure a 140-126 victory over the Indiana Pacers.
The game, however, concluded with an unexpected post-game scuffle over the coveted game ball.
“I have a ball, but I don’t know if it’s a game ball. It doesn’t feel like the game ball to me. I can tell from – what, I played 35 minutes today – I know how the game ball felt. The ball that I have, which I’ll take and I’ll give to my mom for sure, but I don’t know if it’s actually the game ball,” Antetokounmpo explained, emphasizing his uncertainty about the situation.
During the press conference, Giannis detailed his initial intention, saying, “I knew I had the game ball – I didn’t think I had the game ball – I knew I had the ball.”
He described offering the ball to teammate Damian Lillard to commemorate the guard’s achievement of moving past Kyle Korver for fifth place in NBA history in three-pointers made.
The confrontation arose when the Pacers’ Oscar Tshiebwe, celebrating his first official NBA point, claimed the ball. Giannis, frustrated, reflected on the unusual incident: “I’ve never seen this before. I’m not even going to comment on that.”
Discussing the broader context, Antetokounmpo urged appreciation for greatness. “And I understand when you score your first point in the NBA, you want to have the ball or whatever the case might be. At the end of the day, we’re talking about the guy that just jumped over Kyle Korver in the all-time. We should all kind of stop what we’re doing and appreciate greatness.”
