Get free movies and shows with this platform that Netflix hates

Here’s something your favorite streaming services absolutely do not want you to know: There’s a new platform that gives you easy access to free movies and shows! 

After being charged up the wazoo by Netflix, Hulu, and their partners in crime, I made it my personal mission to discover a more affordable streaming alternative that wasn’t just cracking open a book. That’s when I discovered BitMar. 

I did an undercover investigation into the platform so I could share a brutally honest review, but here’s a recap if you don’t want to read the whole thing:

• BitMar compiles free movies, shows, and music from the web in one place, so you don’t have to search yourself.
• You’ll find popular titles and new releases, but certainly not everything.

Movies: A mixed bag

With BitMar, you aren’t paying to access the content; you’re paying for the convenience of not having to search for everything yourself. Everything on BitMar is openly available online, like on YouTube, but finding full-length movies on YouTube can be a pain. 

Instead of shuffling through disjointed clips on YouTube or heading to sketchy websites (sometimes riddled with computer viruses), just open BitMar and type in what you’re looking for into the search tool. Under movies, you can search by genre, title, actor, director, year, rating, or hit random if you want a surprise.

Let’s see what BitMar’s selection of Tom Hanks movies looks like:

As you can see, about a dozen are available to stream on-demand, though BitMar doesn’t have some of his best films, like Forrest Gump. Though, when you can access everything at no additional cost, it’s hard to complain about the selection.

Plus, it’s not like any other streaming service has every movie you want to watch either! And those are charging us hundreds each year to stream. I think BitMar can help fill in some of those missing-movie gaps or satisfy more general movie cravings if you aren’t in the mood for anything specific. 

TV shows: Hits and misses

I find BitMar’s TV show selection to be even more limited than the movies, likely because it’s easier to source a single film compared to a season or a complete collection of a show. I recommend trying to find older reality-type shows instead of newer series, as they’re more likely to be on there.

For example, I couldn’t find Breaking Bad or Yellowstone, but I saw My Strange Addiction, Dance Moms, and Intervention. It makes sense, as I’m sure the companies that own Walter White and John Dutton don’t want people to be able to stream those shows for free.

Poking around BitMar is far easier than trying to navigate the depths of YouTube—since it’s riddled with reaction videos, behind-the-scenes, and other content that you likely just don’t want to see. With BitMar, you can sort by genre or channels like Animal Planet, GSN, PBS Kids, MTV, and Lifetime to see what’s available.

I’ve been an undercover spy testing out BitMar for a couple of weeks now, and I can also report that content availability fluctuates. Free content gets added and removed across the web, so it’s worth checking back to see if new Paul Newman movies are up or to pounce on The Color of Money if you know that it’s streaming.  

Music: A nice bonus

Something I wasn’t expecting to get out of BitMar was being hooked up with free music as well. Honestly, this is the platform’s least exciting feature, as it reminds me exactly of YouTube in the sense that I could search for music or lyric videos in a nearly identical fashion, but it’s there if you’d like to filter content with BitMar’s search feature.

Easy setup across devices

Since BitMar is anything but ordinary, getting it set up across my devices was a little unusual—but simple. If you can figure out today’s Bluetooth complexities or wire your ‘80s-inspired stereo, you got this.

To get started, you’ll activate your first device using the redemption code you receive after purchasing. That device acts as your username and password since there’s no actual account with BitMar. From there, you’ll use the primary device to activate any others you want to use—up to five in total.

You’ll definitely want to set BitMar up on your smart TV, streaming box, or laptop, so you’ll have to go through this activation process or simply screencast, depending on the device. BitMar has specific instructions for each on its website, so it’s rather simple.

Is BitMar worth it? Here’s what I think

BitMar isn’t the greatest streaming platform on the market, but I do think it’s the cheapest (besides those that are free with ads)! I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to add content options to their list without piling on extra monthly fees.
