Ex-Laker Byron Scott not sold on how Clippers set to contend for 22-23 season
Byron Scott isn’t convinced on how the Los Angeles Clippers will fare for next season as presumptive title contenders.
The former NBA pro even told Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints that he’ll entertain talks of praise and crosstown rivalry between the Clippers and his Los Angeles Lakers should the former finally win and clinch that elusive title.
“Ehh, they’re alright,” Scott said mockingly. “I mean, they’re the Clippers, let’s just put it that way. I’m not gonna give them any props until they win something. Simple as that.
“What we got, 17? Oh, okay. I just want them to win one. Just one. Then we can talk.”
Both L.A.-based clubs have gone through a depressing 2021-22 season, battling injuries while ultimately missing the postseason stage. And proceeding to the brand-new season, the Clippers appear much capable of fighting for championship contention.
As one-two punch superstar duo of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George assumed to be ready and healthy, added by the significant arrival of ex-All-NBA point man John Wall, the Clips are gaining regards to reach the top level of hunt for that elusive glory. As such, pressure continues to grind through on their side, with their window slowly closing due to the league-wide emerging competition and ticking prime availability of their main core.
As the Lakers are already cemented as one of the association’s most storied teams, the Clippers are yet to erase the ongoing curse and title disappointment attached to their names. Only time can tell what will await them – which could definitely change their branding on what’s within the history books.
