Erik ten Hag gives crucial triple injury update after 3-0 pre-season loss vs. Liverpool – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has given an injury update on Will Fish, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof

Ten Hag spoke to club media after United suffered a 3-0 loss against Liverpool. Despite playing well for large spells of the match and creating multiple goalscoring opportunities, the Reds’ lack of clinical nature in front of goal was fully punished by Liverpool.

The Merseysiders scored in moments but as it turned out, that is all they needed to give Ten Hag and his players a huge reality check before the start of the 2024/25 season.

There were more injury concerns after the final whistle. Evans and Lindelof started as the centre-back pairing but the two were taken off at the interval and replaced by Fish and Rhys Bennett.

Unfortunately, Fish couldn’t finish the game as he sustained an injury that required him to be taken off the pitch with a stretcher.

Ten Hag told MUTV, “Always, we have to see what has gone on. The assessment, of course, with Will Fish is it’s an impact injury. We also had to sub Jonny Evans at half-time because he was ill. Victor Lindelof [was] a precaution. So, yeah, there are some injuries, but we have to see how bad it will be.”

The Dutchman revealed before kick-off that Harry Maguire was excluded from the matchday squad as a precaution.

On his side’s performance vs. Liverpool, Ten Hag said, “There were mixed feelings, I would say. I think I have seen positive bits, but the way we concede goals, we are, of course, not happy with it. Of course, Liverpool are a very good side. They are very aggressive, and they have lots of goalscoring abilities, so they did very well. But the way we conceded, we are not happy with it.”

“As I said, I think there were good bits, and the first goal is always very important. I thought Liverpool played very well, but they were also very efficient.”

Ten Hag opened up on the progress made by Harry Amass, who was once again named in the starting XI vs. Arne Slot’s men.

“I said already the other day: there is a potential, but he [Amass] has to improve. But I think in the last 12 days here in the tour, he has made big steps. He was really tested in defending, and he made a step forward, but there is still a long way to go.”

The 54-year-old thanked United fans for always creating a brilliant atmosphere and supporting the team.

Ten Hag also expressed his gratitude to club staff for ensuring everything ran smoothly during the tour.
