Emery ‘very happy’ with Aston Villa’s transfer business

Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery says he is “very happy” with the work done in the transfer market this summer.

The Villans have brought in the likes of Amadou Onana and Ian Maatsen while offloading Moussa Diaby and Douglas Luiz for nearly £100million.

And while there is not expected to be any Deadline Day drama in the Midlands, Emery is pleased to have got his business done early.

Speaking to the media ahead of Villa’s match against Leicester, he said: “Yes very happy [with transfer business].

“We did the things we were planning at the beginning.

“The squad we have now with some very important player like Mings, Cameron, Emi Buendia, they are coming back progressively.

“They are getting better and feeling better.

“The players we have added this year into the squad I am very happy.”

Villa make the short trip to Leicester on Saturday, where they will look to return to winning ways after tasting defeat at home to Arsenal last week.

Emery does have some new names at his disposal, but will also be without a few key players for the trip to the King Power Stadium.

Diego Carlos and Matty Cash have both been ruled out, while Ollie Watkins is not yet fully fit after having a short summer break due to his England commitments.

He added: “Time, because the players who were playing until the last moment in competitions with their national teams had less holidays than others.

“Especially for him, he was coming here with a small injury, he was not really 100% when he started training with us.

“He needed one week more resting time than other players after his comeback.

“Now, after playing two matches, I think he’s going to feel better and better, and comfortable as well remembering how we want to get his best performances helping us.”
