Erik ten Hag battle his old club Ajax for the signature of highly rated youngster Efe Akman.

The Galatasary midfielder is yet to make his senior debut but has caught the attention of Europe’s elite clubs with his outstanding displays in the UEFA Youth League this season.

The 17-year-old is reportedly at the top of Ajax’s wish list this summer as they continue their recruitment strategy of unearthing young talent to develop.

But according to GS Gazette Ten Hag is poised to throw a spanner in their works as he urges his club to pursue the Turkish starlet.

According to the report, Manchester United scouts were there to monitor Akman in Galatasaray U19’s match against Kayserispor earlier in the week.

With Ajax official Klaas-Jan Huntelaar also in attendance, a transfer battle looks set to begin.

“Ajax official Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who went to Trabzon yesterday, following the Galatasaray – Kayserispor match from the stadium, started an important investigation in the Turkish League,” Galatasaray correspondent Burhan Can Terzi reports.

“Efe Akman is at the top of the list of Huntelaar. Manchester United is also at Florya for Efe, in touch.”

With contact already having been made, it would appear that the Red Devils are serious about going toe-to-toe with the Eredivisie champions for Akman.

Man United often recruit younger players with a view to developing them for the first team over a number of years, and that would likely be the case with the Galatasary starlet.

But given Ajax’s world-renowned reputation for providing a pathway to senior action for younger players, they will provide fierce competition.

Wherever Akman ends up this summer, he is definitely one to watch.
