Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero Fans Uncover Apparent Confirmation of Local Multiplayer

Despite rumors stating Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero will release without local multiplayer — a staple in anime arena fighters — the game will seemingly have both an online and local multiplayer feature on release.

As spotted by X/Twitter user SLOplays and verified by IGN, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero’s updated listing on the PlayStation store states the game will have local multiplayer. Prior to the game’s store update, players were under the impression that Sparking! Zero wouldn’t launch with local multiplayer because its PlayStation and Steam pages listed it as a single-player game. It was also previously reported from a fan-translated interview with producer Jun Furutani that local split-screen modes wouldn’t be included in the game due to unspecified “issues relating to Sony and Microsoft.”

Save for Jujutsu Kaisen Cursed Clash, anime arena fighters typically have a local multiplayer feature that allows players to molly-whop on their friends and witness their anguished defeat firsthand before uttering the age-old phrase: run it back. Rumors that Sparking! Zero wouldn’t have local multiplayer were understandably bizarre and frustrating for longtime fans, considering every entry in the series has had the feature.

Now all that’s left for Sparking! Zero to do to continue its streak of making diehard Dragon Ball Z fans hype is to officially announce the game’s release date. Hopefully, come Summer Game Fest, players will finally know when the momentous return of the beloved 3D fighter will be.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is slated to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
