Donovan Mitchell claims he should have been 1st Team All-NBA this season
Being not named to the All-NBA First Team this season sounded offensive at the side of Donovan Mitchell.
During an appearance on “Sideline Stroll with Ros” hosted by Ros Gold-Onwude, the Cleveland Cavaliers star addressed his viral tweet following the release of the All-NBA Teams this year and admitted that he didn’t take it lightly.
“I just felt that I should have been (All-NBA) First Team,” he said. “So that’s one of my goals for next year, to be First Team. And I felt like I was good enough, but obviously the media members did not.”
Averaging 28.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.5 steals in 68 games played, Mitchell enjoyed the best individual season of his career this 2022-23 campaign for the Cavs as he led the franchise to the fourth best regular season record in the Eastern Conference.
But the likes of Luka Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander still outlasted him for a spot on the All-NBA First Team as he went on to settle at the Second Team.
Mitchell admitted that it should have been this year that he finally made it in, but he vowed that the discussion would be different next year.
“I feel I should have made it,” he added. “Who comes off? I don’t really care who it is as long as I’m on first team in my head, but it didn’t happen.”
