Dodgers going all-in at MLB trade deadline after $1 billion offseason

If a $1 billion spending spree this past offseason wasn’t enough confirmation, the Dodgers are all-in to win the World Series this season and plan to be very aggressive ahead of the July 30 MLB trade deadline.

ESPN’s Jeff Passon reports the Dodgers are expected to look to bring in the biggest of fish before month’s end in the hope of bolstering their roster for the stretch run and the postseason.

The baseball insider speculates that the Dodgers could trade for Luis Robert or Randy Arozarena to improve their outfield and a lineup that has a surprising lack of depth beyond Freddie Freeman and Shohei Ohtani.

Los Angeles has dealt with tons of injuries this season, as outfielder-turned-shortstop Mookie Betts has missed huge chunks of time and the starting rotation has been in shambles throughout the season.

When it comes to pitching help, White Sox hurler Garrett Crochet and Tigers starter Jack Flaherty are among the names that have been floated.

The Dodgers will finally get Tyler Glasnow and Clayton Kershaw back this week, but there doesn’t appear to be a timetable for Walker Buehler or Japanese import Yoshinobu Yamamoto to return.

In theory, the Dodgers would be hesitant to continue their obscene spending spree, but thanks to Ohtani’s wild contract deferrals, Los Angeles isn’t even in the top five in total team payroll this season.

This added flexibility gives the Dodgers an option to bring in someone like Arozarena, who will receive several raises as he advances through the arbitration process before being able to hit free agency in 2027.

Los Angeles has plenty of prospects to trade to teams for win-now pieces, as they feature the eighth-best pipeline of young talent according to MLB.com.
